1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, organization name, and payment information. Payment details are processed by Stripe and never stored on our servers.

Usage Data

We collect information about how you use SmartKnock, including visit logs, survey responses, canvassing routes, and campaign activity. This data belongs to your organization.

Voter Data

SmartKnock provides access to publicly available voter registration records. We do not collect additional personal information about voters beyond what is in the public record. Visit notes and survey responses created by your canvassers are stored within your organization's database.

Device and Location

With your permission, SmartKnock collects location data to provide door-to-door routing. This data is used only during active canvassing sessions and is not tracked when the app is not in use.

2. How We Use Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve SmartKnock services
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Generate canvassing routes and door-to-door directions
  • Provide campaign analytics and leaderboards
  • Send service-related notifications (billing, security, feature updates)
  • Respond to support requests

3. Data Isolation

Each organization's data is stored in a separate, isolated database. Your campaign data, visit logs, and canvasser activity are never shared with or accessible to other organizations.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share information only with:

  • Stripe — for payment processing
  • Google Maps — for geocoding addresses and routing (addresses only, no voter PII)
  • Law enforcement — only when required by valid legal process

5. Data Retention

Your organization's data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days. After cancellation, you may request a data export. After the retention period, data is permanently deleted.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted databases, role-based access controls, and audit logging. Access to voter data is restricted by campaign and precinct assignments.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access and export your organization's data
  • Correct inaccurate account information
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

8. Children's Privacy

SmartKnock is not intended for use by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification.
